袁耀宗教授，男，1954年9月出生。自1978年从上海第二医科大学毕业后，长期在瑞金医院临床医、教、研第一线工作。1984年和1988年先后进入上海第二医科大学攻读消化内科硕士学位、博士学位，并分别于1987年和1991年取得硕士学位、博士学位。1993年晋升为副教授、副主任医师。1997年破格晋升为教授、主任医师。
曾于1988年至1990年在法国巴黎第五大学圣路易医院进修二年。1997年参加国家卫生部临床药理基地培训。1998年10月至12月在美国哈佛大学医学院附属医院消化科内镜中心进修学习。1997年首批入选为“上海市卫生系统百名跨世纪优秀学科带头人培养计划”培养对象，2001年又获上海市卫生局追加研究经费。
目前担任上海第二医科大学附属瑞金医院临床医学系副主任、消化科副主任、博士生导师、中华医学会消化病学会常委及动力学组委员、胰腺病学组委员、中华医学会上海分会消化病学会委员、秘书、国际胃肠内外科学会会员。同时担任《中华医学杂志》编委、《中华消化杂志》常务编委及其他四本杂志编委。
多年来主要从事胰腺疾病、胃肠功能性和动力障碍性疾病的基础和临床研究工作，曾负责完成国家自然科学基金课题二项及上海市自然科学基金课题多项，参与完成国家七·五、八·五、九·五攻关课题及国家自然科学基金课题多项。作为第二课题完成者获上海市科技进步三等奖一项。目前正在负责完成上海市自然科学基金重点课题等课题三项。在国内外杂志上发表有关胰腺疾病、胃肠功能性和动力障碍性疾病研究论文60余篇，主编专著3本。近年来曾多次负责或参加国家I、II、III类新药临床试验。
